i want to inform the group about this play 'Jab We Elect' going on at Sri Ram Centre on 24th and 25th. Produced by Pandies Theater Group. The group primarily consists of students and teachers in various departments of humanities in DU. The group also has worked actively to grapple with various social problems such as HIV, prostitution, communalism etc. The Play: The 70 min play is centered in the contemporary scenario attempting a stark critique of the ill effects of globalisation and privatisation on ordinary indian citizens and society. It is written keeping in mind the contemporary events like recession, the ram sena controversy, M.F. Hussain's case etc. These instances are a part of sub plots in the play. The play attempts to take clear positions against the economic policy of the government but at the same time appeals to vote so as 'to choose the bad against the worse'. Although, one may say it's a bit too much left oriented but clear positions taken are provocative enough for discussion. P.S. : The post performance discussion almost allows any questions to be posed to the director as well as script writer has almost the flavour of a mini seminar. The play is written primarily in hindi by Dr. Anand Prakash, a hindi writer and a retd. English teacher in Hansraj College, DU.....Directed by Sanjay Kumar (professor of English, DU).
