Dear Comrades, Friends As you might have noticed by this time a *Smt. Mary Francis* who is an evictee of the "*Moolampilly model Development"* is contesting this parliment Election from Ernakulam Constituency as an independant Candidate. We hope the horrible scenes of the eviction by a *Progressive Left Goverment* is still fresh in your memories*.* Even after 14 months those evictees are still living in temporory sheds. Mind you they were all living in their own houses before the eviction. Goverment had to declare a rehabilitation package after 6 weeks of struggle by these people which was supported by a large sect of people.But even after one year nothing has happened. They were offered Pattayam for a peice of land where construction of even a hut is impossible..The goverment could not provde even the minimum facilities like Road, Water and Electricity. Still our ministers are claiming that these people were given the BEST Rehabilitation package in India.. Hence we have no option other than fighting in the elections to show the people of Kerala the truth about the struggle. ** Our main slogans are 1. Scrap the Land Acquisition ACT1894 of the British Imperialist Era and draft new act with following provisions: a) Displacement of families shall be limited the most possible minimum for any project b) In case any displacement is necessary it shall be with the informed consent of the displaced people c)The Rehabilitation package shall be a mandatory clause of the Land Acquistion Act which will be providing new living environment not worse than ( as far as possible better) by the goverment before acquiring their land.House, Employmeent ( Livelihood) , Education, Health and all other facilities better than their original settlement shall be provided d) The actual market price for the land shall be given the displaced peolpe. e) No land acquisition for any private project by the Goverment f) If the acquired land is used for any purpose other than the original one an option shall be given to the original owner to take back the land. 2,. Peoples Right over resources Land, water, Air, Minerals etc over the corporate capital 3. Definition of the word Development in peoples perspective 4. The menace of Corruption which is affecting the poor people the most shall be fought with peoples power. and many more... There are many candidates in the fray including those representing major political parties/ Fronts. But in last 60 years none of these parties had ever offered this even in their Election Manifesto. They are always arguing for a capitalistic development and competing among themselves to be more Capital friendly. Hence it was decided by the struggling group in Moolampilly ( Kerala -Kochi) to contest this election by themselves to raise this serious issue which will affect the whole India. As you are aware contesting a parliamentary electionis not an easy task for a small group of displaced lot.there is arequirement of of large amount of money at least to make the presence in the fray where each of the main party contenders are spending more than tens of crores. In this ccontext we think it is moral and political duty of all like minde people/ groups to support the fight for justice in whichever way they can..
