I lived with a muslim family for more than one year when I was in Mumbai .My
hindu friends were very surprised to hear that I am staying with a muslim
family . “you should be very careful while interacting with muslims “ : They
cautioned me. Lakshmi ( name changed to keep the anonymity as per her request)
of a women’s college in Bangalore was mentally tortured and alienated by her
upper caste class mates just because of the fact that she happened to be a
dalit . When I came to know this from Lakshmi’s friend , I thought about the
experience I had in Mumbai .Lakshmi was brought to Nimhans hospital by her
friend for a counseling last week . Alienation and threatening by the upper
caste hindus are the only reason why there is a growing insecurity among
muslims and Dalits. Muslims are trying a method of grouping and clustering to
save themselves from their enemies while Dalits are becoming victims again and
again because their population
is more of scattered in nature . After the gujrat communal violence , muslims
are migrating to nearby villages to cluster themselves for defence against
Hindu fundamentalism . The same is happening in bangalore as well. In this way
both communities feel the alienation from rest of the Indian population .After
the Sarchar committee report , a huge conspiracy during the BJP rule was
exposed . During the BJP rule , there were collective attempts to deny
government posts and seats in college for muslims .As Muslims make up 13.4 %
of Indian population , yet hold fewer than 5% of government posts and make up
only 4% of the undergraduate student body in india’s elite universities. BJP
and allied parties are arguing that the high growth rate among muslim
polpolaution may pose threats to Hindu nationality but its is proved to be a
myth as the population growth is high among hindus compared to muslims .
We cannot rule out the return of hindu nationslists to power in Delhi . So ,
intellectuals of this country have a more challenging role to play in the post
election times .
