The Polit Bureau of  CPI(ML) Liberation  met at New Delhi during 13 to
15th October and deliberated on  recent  socio-political developments
in India. In a press note released on 18th October, the PB expressed
the following views  on various topics debated:-

The PB condemned the Pricol management for implicating several
workers, TU activists and Comrade S Kumarasamy in the unfortunate
incident that led to the demise of a senior Pricol executive on 22
September and demanded immediate release of all arrested workers and
the dropping of all fabricated charges against Pricol workers and
Comrade Kumarasamy. The PB congratulated the workers of Pricol for
their continued resistance and thanked the unions, lawyers’
associations and other citizens inside and outside of Tamil Nadu who
have opposed the witch hunt against Pricol workers and their leaders
and expressed

The PB also condemned the indiscriminate arrests of activists and
supporters of the Lalgarh agitation and the sealing of the press where
our Bengali state organ Deshabrati used to be printed. While the
CPI(M) opposes the UAPA in principle, in West Bengal the CPI(M)-led
government is increasingly invoking the draconian clauses of the UAPA
to harass and arrest all those who have been opposing the wrong
policies and repressive measures of the government. It should be noted
that the state repression going on in West Bengal is very much a joint
venture of the state and central governments and Mamata Banerjee’s
occasional protestations are therefore nothing but political hypocrisy
solidarity with AICCTU in the ongoing struggle for justice and
industrial democracy.

The UPA government’s politico-military offensive against Maoism
constitutes a multipronged assault on democracy and a conspiracy to
suppress people’s struggles on basic issues and crush the voice of
protest and resistance against the state-sponsored corporate plunder
of the country’s resources. The Maoists are of course indulging in
reckless anarchist acts, alienating and antagonizing the general
democratic opinion and making it easier for the state to drum up
support for harsh measures of repression. While boldly resisting the
state’s politico-military offensive we must also clearly assert the
ideological-political demarcation between the ‘Maoist’ variety of
anarchism and revolutionary Marxism. The challenge of resisting
repression and asserting our distinct political-ideological identity
and historical legacy can of course be met only on the basis of
powerful mass struggles and a united and consolidated Party
organization.

The PB noted with concern the shrill anti-China campaign in sections
of the Indian media. Sections of defence strategists and even senior
military and governmental functionaries hold China as India’s greatest
security threat, and the recent exchange of acrimonious statements
from both sides on the border dispute indicates heightened bilateral
tension. Any aggravation of India-China tension will provide the US
with greater opportunities to meddle in the region and strengthen its
strategic stranglehold over India. Past experiences show that
heightened tension or border skirmish with Pakistan or China creates
huge financial burden on the country and vitiates the political
climate. We must therefore denounce any attempt to whip up tension
between India and China and press for peaceful negotiated resolution
of all outstanding issues and greater economic and political
cooperation between these two big Asian countries in the international
arena.
