Read this article and found to be rather shallow . I disagree with his argument that science developed through observations. Yes , observations of the nature and the surrounding world has its own relevance but only when we apply logic and reason, we are able to achieve scientific progress . Everybody is observing the world but a few are able to find out scientific truth . Because they apply logic and reasoning power into it . Let me tell you that the purpose of science is not to find the ultimate truth because there is no ultimate truth as such . Science will enable you to understand the nature of this world and live comfortably. Since earth is not the center of the universe , and probably man is not its purpose , moreover purpose is a concept which is scientifically useless . But science can create a stable world . For example , it can give us a stable society provided that there is a single government of the whole world and general diffusion of prosperity .The world is a long way from realizing these conditions , and therefore we must expect vast upheavals and suffering before stability is attained . Coming to materialism , it represents the point of view of the physical inquirer. Materials should apparently , denote the doctrine that matter is the ultimate reality . Nothing really exists except matter, in various combinations from stones to bones . Spiritualism must be the doctrine that mind is the ultimate reality . But it is proved to be false as there is nothing called mind but body is the only reality . Modern scientists are calling it by another name called “ brain “ . So let us forget the concepts of soul and mind , these are all imaginations . In this sense , materialism has an undoubted possibility . Coming to Einstein’s theory of relativity , there is no great philosophical consequences behind this theory . The theory does not say that everything is relative , on the contrary , it gives a technique for distinguishing what is relative from what belongs to a physical occurrence in its own right . For example , in the first place , mass as measured was found to be increasing with velocity , this kind of mass was found to be really the same thing as energy. This kind of mass is not constant for a given body . It results from only methods of measurement , and does not express a genuine property of matter. Materialists are interested in an other kind of mass . The other kind of mass which we may call ” Proper mass” is that which is found to be the mass by an observer moving with the body. This is the ordinary terrestrial case where the body we are weighing is not flying through the air . The proper mass of a body is very nearly constant , but not quite . The world which the theory of relativity presents to our imagination is not so much a world of things in motion as a world of events . It is true that there are still particles which seems to persists , but these are really to be conceived on strings of connected events , like successive notes of a song. The world must progress only through reason and logic and a great amount of sensitivity to the world we live in. This will enable us to make scientific progress without doubt . We must understand that there is nothing called absolute truth or some hidden secrets about this universe . The universe is what we observe through our eyes . For example , The reason that we are not able to disprove the existence of God does not bring the argument that god do exist . These are all imaginations . It is man , out of his ignorance created the concept of god and wasting his precious time over it . And talking about the beginning and end of the universe , there need not be a beginning and end for everything . Whatever we see in this world has a beginning and end , so we are under the illusion that this universe also has . Like that whatever we see in this world is created or made by someone , so we are under the illusion that there is somebody who created us also . It is very difficult to come out of this illusion as these are all facts which we see from early childhood itself. So science has its own purpose but it is not to find any hidden or absolute truth . Rather it is to enable and equip us to live in this world comfortably. regards Sreenivas

For example the religious beliefs asked people to do good to get wealth in heavens. Sciences asked them to follow a particular series of acts to get wealth in this world. The religion asked for unobservable results mainly based on faith while the sciences asked for observable outcomes based on achievements. Human psychology preferred the later. This preference was based on the observation of people that this world is objective and this has an ultimate reality. They thought that this ultimate reality could be discovered through the scientific discoveries. This belief of people that the ultimate reality is discoverable through some scientific procedures was imbibed by those procedures themselves. When the science broke a particle a new sub-particle level was found. It was, therefore inferred that one day as the technology provides a suitable gadget the ultimate sub-level will be discovered and thereafter the sciences will reach their summit.
