Appeal to join Satyagrah and Jan Sunwai in Dantewada The situation in Dantewada is grim with State having colluded with extra-Constitutional forces like Salwa Judum to scuttle a peaceful and democratic process undertaken to restore normalcy in the area and a padyatra being taken out by Himanshu Kumar’s Vanvasi Chetna Ashram. The Constitutional right of citizens from within Bastar region as well as from other parts of India to come and join the padyatra was blatantly violated on 14th January, 2009. It is quite clear that the vested interests who do not want the atrocities being committed on tribals by the security forces and Salwa Judum to be exposed want to close the area from any outside inspection. The objective of the padyatra was to document the injustices done to tribals so that they may legally and administratively be addressed. An atmosphere of peace and justice needs to be restored in the area to make the tribals feel secure. Vanvasi Chetna Ashram is determined to continue fighting for justice for tribals in spite of a bitter opposition from opportunist leaders claiming to represent the interests of tribals. It is quite clear that these leaders who ignore the compliance of V Schedule and oppose the implementation of VI Schedule provisions of the Constitution are least bothered about the interests of tribal population. A satyagrah in the form of relay fast is being planned from December 25, 2009, to January 4, 2010, at Dantewada. NAPM is going to organize a meeting on 5-6 January, 2010 here. On 6-7 January, 2010 a public hearing will be organized to allow the tribals to narrate their experiences. Shri P. Chidambaram, Home Minister of GoI is likely to be present on 7th January. This is an appeal to all of you to come to Dantewada in these difficult times and stand by Himanshu and the triabls in their fight for justice and peace. You may come in small groups from December 25 and then in big numbers for the Jan Sunwai. Please inform about your travel plans.
