The Demonstration 11 in Sylhet On 11 January,2010, at 11 AM, please attend the event at the historic Kin Bridgeghat beside the Surma in the heartland of the Sylhet city. 11dignitaries of Sylhet will free 11 pigeons with letters containing 11 point demand to the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and India. The two leaders will be in a summit meeting on 11 January evening in New Delhi.
11 point demands in brief are as follows:
- Large dams kill rivers; spell menacing disaster to human habitat and
civilization.No more large dam in South Asia;
- Not a single inch ahead with the devastating TIPAIMUKH dam project upon
the 946 km stretch common international river
Barak-Surma-Kushiara-Kalni-Dhanu-Meghna . The dam will issue death warrant
to the riverine civilization of north East India and eastern Bangladesh.
- Let there be no large dam upon the upper riparian Brahmaputra in China
and India. Speculations and reliable information are there that scores of
large dams are there in the offing in China and India threatening the whole
basin.
- Let there be peoples ownership upon all the water-bodies, rivers,
wetlands in South Asia. Let there be no unilateral intervention by any
riparian country upon any trans-boundary rivers in South Asia.Let there be
strong initiative to form Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna Joint Basin Commission to
unleash the potentials in a harmonious pro-people way.
- There must have to be trans-boundary river justice towards ensuring
equitable water justice along 54 common rivers of Bangladesh and India.
- Ensure safe water for all purposes in the region through the united
efforts of South Asia, China and Myanmar.
- There must not be nature-destructing development discourse any more in
South Asia, China or elsewhere in the globe. No more emission of
catastrophic carbon and methane!Ensure adequate and conducive steps towards
climate and nature-friendly development caravan.
- No to Nuclear and conventional arms race madness and resource-waste
anymore in South Asia.Yes to effective action against poverty, hunger,
illiteracy and backwardness in the region. Let there be peace in all the
habitat-huts! Let South Asia provide initiatives and leadership in these
arenas.
- Let there be people-centric South Asian Economic Union ensuring the
rights of all the nationalities and tribes of the region towards
eradication of the all engulfing poverty of the region.
- There must not be any discrimination and deprivation on the question of
caste-creed-colour-gender-religeon in the region. No more war,communal
blood-letting,subjugation, internecine intolerance hence forth. Let there be
adequate steps for ensuring no killing of any innocent citizen along border.
- Let our South Asia turn into a region symbolizing the land of peace ,
tranquility and prosperity for all. Let the region be visa-free land of
amity.
