PEOPLE'S MEDIA INITIATIVE

 Press Statement

Peoples' Media Initiative (PMI) strongly condemns the dastardly attacks on
the Headlines Today and Zee 24 Taas. RSS goons attacked office of English
news Channel Headlines Today and Shiv Sainiks barged into the office of
Marathi channel Zee 24 Taas in Kolhapur yesterday.

RSS workers vandalized the office of Headlines Today for airing a sting
operation alleging senior RSS leaders may have been aware of the terror
strikes on Hyderabad’s Mecca Masjid. Zee 24 Taas channel had called an
activist of Kannada Seema Rakshan Vedige for a live programme on the
Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute. The Shiv Sainiks stormed into the
office assaulted activist of Kannada Sema Rakshan Vedige and damaged the
office.

The two separate attacks on different channels in Delhi and Kolhapur once
again prove that the intolerance is on the rise. Such fascist forces need to
be brought to book. We demand that the Delhi and Maharashtra Government
should take a stern action against the attackers and conspirators. It may be
recalled that the Maharashtra Government had announced a couple of months
ago that the attacks on journalists and media houses will be made cognizable
offences. Mr. R. R. Patil, the Home Minister, then categorically said that
an ordinance will be promulgated. But, nothing has been done. We, once
again, demand that the Maharashtra Government must immediately come out with
an ordinance making attacks on journalists a cognizable offence.
