proposes for a PM from civil societyMonday, 16 August 2010

Vice chairman of Unified CPN (Maoist) Baburam Bhattarai has proposed a Prime
Minister from the civil society as an outlet to the present political
deadlock, Sunday.

Talking to Annapurna Post daily at his residence on Sunday Bhattarai said,
the parties could agree for a candidate from the civil society for the post
of the Prime Minister as none of the political leaders were able to gain
confidence of each other for the post.

"It would be logical to say, our party should get the leadership of the
government in capacity of the largest party in the parliament. The
leadership of our chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is desirable. But, we cannot
stay stubborn if other parties don't agree to that. We can agree for a
common candidate from the civil society," said Bhattarai.

There are many candidates from the civil society who can lead the
government, Bhattarai opined. Power sharing can be done based on the
parties' presence in the parliament, he added.

Bhattarai forwarded the proposal of choosing a Prime Minister from the civil
society three days before the fifth round of elections for the post of PM,
scheduled to take place at the legislature parliament.

With the major political parties in the parliament, Unified CPN (Maoist),
Nepali Congress, UML and the united front of the Madhes-based parties
adamant on their respective stances, the fifth round of PM elections is also
almost certain to end in a fiasco.

Earlier, on Saturday, too, Bhattarai had opined both the candidates for the
post of PM should withdraw their candidacies to pave way for a third
candidate.
