Yes ,what you have pointed out , this is brazen political dishonesty, among other political foibles which make political activity to-day a caricature in which most political formations participate in full view of public opinion ;but that is not enough to expose , where is the perspective for the most difficult political decade confronting Indian society . To: [email protected] Cc: "subhashini ali"@yahoo.com, [email protected], gajendra singh <[email protected]> Dear Subhashini , Is it a case of two parties espousing Left ideologies, one reformist , interalia supporting Operation Green Hunt against the rural proletariat and peasant communities of tribal India ; the other still infantile , without a political program for the Indian Republic as a whole , as of now espousing only armed struggle , with a limited base among tribal and landless workers , without a wider political platform ; with both parties being used successfully to decimate each other , ably assisted by an anarchist political personality, supported by financiers and corporate houses ,eager for more privatizations and access to the treasury at the cost of the public exchequer ?????? Something seems very wrong with the support base of a Left front , when a personality like Mamta Bannerjee, who herself has not till date dissociated from Operation Green Hunt, an operation to justify land seizures and clearance of villages ,pursuant to hundreds of MOUs signed by Chief Ministers among others ; if she can be taken seriously by people in West Bengal ????? Something is also very wrong with the Maoists if they see Mamta Bannerjee as politically reliable ......... The political system decays rapidly , people demand answers, and is this all that the democratic left can provide, in a country where there is a vast small and landless peasantry and millions of landless workers ?????? With workers in the industrial and mining sector ,having lost practically all the gains of the struggle of the earlier decades .Is this a political level , a game of upmanship with Mamta Bannerjee???Is this Marxist?? Apart from the fact, that even the intellectuals and middle classes are at the end of their patience with the political system ,with abysmal civic conditions, hardly affordable privatized education , precarious employment , and a run away inflation with massive corruption in every single institution and vulgarity and conspicuous consumption the societal norm leading to a break down of the societal order ,in which children and women are the worst victims along with others and debts pile up even for the Middle income and petty trading classes and communities apart from the small farming communities where suicides is seen as the only way out of the clutches of the financial sector. With political classes at the Centre and in certain states like in the Kashmir valley , the North East , finding insurgency a matter of mutual political advantage, a convenient diversion from the failure of the dominant class at the regional and national level , to address developmental issues , even as frustrated young people bleed in demonstrations leading nowhere. Health epidemics are now spreading across India in the manner of the colonial period , with cities and towns in filth and decay ,unsanitary conditions widespread .It recalls the period of colonial India , when life of the Indian was cheap and expendable . Where is the analysis , the vision and the movement when our society needs a different perspective , from the petty squabbles for political turf . Are concessions to be made only just before an electoral battle as seen in many states???? What is the quality of governance of the political parties from Right to Left ??????/// It was said by a brilliant theoretician of the 20th Century who was also a man of action , that no one could defeat the Left except the Left themselves . Time for serious introspection for those who are not too smug or arrogant to reflect .A political party is not an end in itself ,political organizations do not exist to make political careers or to occupy political office , as proxies of some financial or commercial or Transnational interest ;neither does political office give the incumbent the liberty to ignore the public good, the objective is emancipation of humanity , the better organization of society , the necessity to rise to higher levels of economic well being and culture with an overall feeling of social security to create higher levels of civilization , that is the raison d'etre of political organization . Not all the existing NGOs can camouflage the abysmal state of governance and the political bankruptcy of so many political formations, to whose governance the people of India have been now exposed for more than two decades . There is no doubt that the Left in parliament opposed financial reforms and suggested schemes such as the rural employment guarantee scheme among others and opposes what it terms as "communalism" which is really the fascist offshoot of corporate rule seeking diversions ; but these programs do not alter the existing conditions which are abysmal for those in the unorganized sector , which were referred to by the Arjun Sengupta Committee and the N.C.Saxsena Committee on the rural poor .
