my father passed away yesterday. papa wasn't really an active gandhian (he was the only member of the family that didn't go to jail in the freedom era) but a happy go lucky person who loved everyone and everything. he gave me more love than i can ever repay the world. he was not into politics in its own right but was proud and supportive of everything his brothers and sister did, and later, his wife and son did. as a husband he encouraged his beautiful young wife nirmala to travel abroad alone and study to become a studio potter rather than be a traditional housewife. as a father he chose to be a friend who never once spoke in anger. he held many jobs (perhaps more than i knew about) including salt manufacture in karachi pre independenc, B movie distribution to the middle east in the 60's (with titles like Tarzan Meets Captain Kishore, Lady Robin Hood, etc) book publishing in the 70'sand 80's. he became 94 three days ago. my mom passed away 2 years ago from cancer but papa never succumbed to despair and loneliness. in spite of the terrible aches and pains that old age brought, his mind remained as sharp as ever and he read incessantly and listened to his favourite indian classical music. he cried at the drop of a hat (even when watching movies or reading some sad news) but was a pillar of strength to all around him. he lived life in the present and accepted all that came. needless to say it is the end of an era, and for me, the beginning of uncertainty. anand <http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=6914474&fbid=478708815032&op=1&view=all&subj=154044187945139&aid=-1&auser=0&oid=154044187945139&id=633630032> -- mustafdesam -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
