Press Release 10/10/10

*Climate Justice Flag hoisted at Keokaradang Peak*

10 young climate action trekkers climbed the highest peak of Bangladesh
today 10/10/10 at 10-10 AM and hoisted climate justice flag as part of
global climate actions initiated by 350.org. The young heroes braved the
adverse and inclement weather to traverse and trek the trail to Keokaradang
for 3 days since 7 October, braving adverse and inclement weather, worsened
by torrential rain and gusty wind.
Their valor, determination and perseverance brought victory to the climate
caravan.

350.org campaigns for keeping the carbon emission level within the upper
safe level of 350 ppm from its current dangerous level of 392 ppm. In
Bangladesh, we feel that we have been in the injustice regime due to the
fallout of the the mindless sarbon emitting anti-nature development craze of
the super-industrialized countries of the world. Angikar Bangladesh
organized this CLIMATE JUSTICE CARAVAN with a clarion demand to the carbon
emitter 'developed' countries to provide adequate and immediate
compensation to the climate victim vulnerable countries like Bangladesh.

The 10 young heroes are : Easel Mortuza, Athar Ali, Sajib Kumar, Nahian Bin
Mahbub, Robert Bom, Ahmed Imtiaz Shihab, Azfar Sadun Khan, Saniel Azad,
Munjirul Mushabbir Koushik and Shanto.

ActionAid Bangladesh and the Danish Embassy, Dhaka assisted in the caravan.

350.0rg Bangladesh Event
Its already happened!

At 10.10 AM of 10/10/10 our ten climate justice action heroes climbed the
highest peak of Bangladesh KEOKARADANG and hoisted the climate justice flag.
They had to traverse and trek a very hazardous and difficult hilly path for
3 days, still worsened by torrential rain and gusty wind and their
determination finally won! No photograph could be sent from the internet
inaccessible point. We will send photographs at the earliest.

Dear friends,

It's happening--and it’s even bigger than we thought it would be.

>From what we can tell from reports streaming in from East Asia and Australia
and New Zealand, 10/10/10 is going to be the biggest day of climate action
ever--from one end of the planet to the other, people are already hard at
work.

If you haven't already figured out which event to join, visit the
map<http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=uBE1rxXcjIk738liKiBpL2svqCvkBHiH>on
our website to find a work party in your community--and be sure to
check
out the front page of
350.org<http://salsa.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=6%2B9ooF0SkLHz%2FlaBfUb8%2BmsvqCvkBHiH>,
which has transformed into an amazing showcase of today’s events.

And a last minute request: Make sure that you document whatever you're doing
today. WE NEED PICTURES, and we need them right away so we can post them on
our homepage, send them to the media, and deliver them to political leaders.

It's seriously easy to upload pictures to 350.org--just read the
instructions in the box on the right side of this email.

This year has been a hard one: political leaders have failed to rise to the
challenge of the climate crisis, and we’ve seen one climate-related disaster
after another.

*But today represents a crucial shift--and we’re gaining momentum for the
road ahead. *

After today, we can move forward with a new sense of optimism and
confidence--not just because President Obama decided to put solar on the
White House or because the Mayor of Mexico City announced that his city will
cut carbon emissions by 10% this year.

We can be confident because the climate movement is bigger and more
beautiful than ever before--and it’s not going away. Visit 350.org today
and you’ll see that millions of people, from 188 countries, are united with
a common purpose. They may speak differently or look differently or pray
differently, but they all care about the same future.

It won’t be easy to get on the path to 350, but we can all keep pushing for
the big actions that matter--pushing with the confidence that comes with
having a movement standing together.

Thanks for all you’ve done--and all you’ll do in the days, weeks, and months
ahead.

Onwards,

Bill McKibben for the whole team at

*350.org is an international grassroots campaign that aims to mobilize a
global climate movement* united by a common call to action. By spreading an
understanding of the science and a shared vision for a fair policy, we will
ensure that the world creates bold and equitable solutions to the climate
crisis. 350.org is an independent and not-for-profit project.
*
What is 350? *350 is the number that leading scientists say is the safe
upper limit for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Scientists measure carbon
dioxide in "parts per million" (ppm), so 350ppm is the number humanity needs
to get below as soon as possible to avoid runaway climate change. To get
there, we need a different kind of PPM-a "people powered movement" that is
made of people like you in every corner of the planet.
