Subject: Invitation to attend Protest dharna at Indira Park on March 7, Monday from 11 am to 2 pm against Police Firing in Kakarapalli
March 5, 2011 Dear Friends, You are aware of the killing of 2 villagers on Feb 28 and the large- scale violence unleashed by the police in villages around the Kaakarapalli wetland in Santhabommali mandal of Srikakulam district. By now, it is clear that the government, both at the State and the Centre is bent on facilitating the East Coast Energy Pvt. Ltd’s (ECEPL) construction of a 2640 MW thermal plant in a precious ecosystem. They have suppressed vital ecological information, treated environmental regulations with utter contempt and managed to obtain clearances in a fraudulent manner. As recent events have shown, there is total absence of consent of the local people for the project. Following the killings, the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF) has only temporarily suspended ECEPL’s construction and has called for a meeting of its Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) on March 7 to review the clearance regime for the project. *As concerned citizens, we need to speak out and demand cancellation of the environmental clearance accorded to the ECEPL by the EAC. We invite you to join a protest dharna at **Indira** **Park** on March 7, Monday from **11 am ** to **2 pm** to collectively express solidarity with the struggling farmers, fisher-folk, artisans and landless labourers of the Kaakarapalli area. Do join in.* * * * * *Human Rights Forum* *Forum For Better **Hyderabad*** *Telangana Praja Front* -- -- B.Karthik Navayan, Advocate H.No. 21-7-761, Opp.High Court Post Office, Gansi Bazar, Hyderabad, PIN-500002, AP.
