Press Invite
We would like to express our great concern and deep anxiety about the deadly radioactive explosion that has happened at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan. While we are still anxious about the possibilities of radiation effects reaching India due to this accident, the Koodamkulam nuclear power plant is about to start close to Kerala. As per the existing information, this plant is an immediate threat to southern Kerala including the districts of Trivandrum, Kollam, Alleppey and Pathanamthitta. Radiation from this plant can affect not just the fish resources and the fishing communities, but also the heart of tourism in South India like Kanyakumari, Kovalam, Varkala and Kuttanad. A press conference will be held at l1am on 23rd March at the Press Club, Thiruvananthapuram, on this issue The press conference will be addressed by Pushparayan (Convener, Coastal People's Federation, South Tamil Nadu), Dr. S.P. Udayakumar (Coordinator, National Alliance of Anti-nculear Movements) and representatives of people's organisations in southern Kerala.
