'Nataka Vandi' (Theatre Cart) to tour south Kerala districts
'Nataka Vandi,' (The Theatre Cart,' a touring theatre programme launched by the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, will begin the tour of southern districts of Kerala from April 25, 2011. The tour will start from Thiruvananthapuram, moving towards Ernakulam district by the middle of May. This will be the second leg of the tour of 'Nataka Vandi,' which has completed the tour of the northern districts of the State in February - March, 2011. Planned with the aim of taking theatre to the rural areas of Kerala, with the slogan, 'Natakathe Thirichu Pidikkuka,' or 'Recapture Theatre,' the Nataka Vandi is a unique initiative conducted in association with some of the leading actors in the State. The team includes C.R.Rajan, K.B.Hari, Sudhi Vattappinni, Prathapan, Mallu P.Sekhar and O.C.Martin. The travelling group will present a package of short plays or 'Theatre Sketches,' around 20 minutes long in duration. Focus has been given to the short plays and stories by Ravindranath Tagore, as part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of the great poet. The programmes are charted in association with local hosts who will have to provide only the venue and local hospitality. All other expenses including the travel and remuneration of the artistes are borne by the Akademi.
