Subject: Anti-nuclear protesters again detained.
To:

24 april 2011,

On the second day of the anti nuclear yatra around 100 anti nuclear
activists participated in a protest meeting organised by the local
people at Pen, near Panvel.

Police detained anti nuclear activists on the second day as well. The
administration is trying everything to obstruct the yatra while we
maintain that this yatra is fully in public interest, to spread
awareness about the hazards of the nuclear power, and also to fight
for the democratic rights of the people to self
determination/discretion.
We demand the scrapping of all nuclear power projects across the country.

The first day of the rally was disrupted by the police as they
detained the participants of the rally under the Bombay police act,
sec.68. the participants slammed this step of the police along with
the eminent social activists and also sat on a hunger strike till they
were released at around 10:30pm.

People including Justice P.B. Sawant, Justice Kolse Patil , Retd.
Admiral Ramdas, B L. Sharma from Azadi bachao andolan and many
academicians, scientists, activists from different parts of the
country were detained on the first day. We feel that we are practicing
our democratic rights and in the process the general peace of the
areas would not be disturbed but people will wake to know the other
side of the nuclear power coming in their areas. The activists are
determined to carry on the yatra till Jaitapur.

On the wake of the repression, unjust detention a protest would be
organised by PUCL, CNDP and others tomorrow i.e. 25 april 2011 in
delhi at maharashtra sadan, copernicus marg at 11 am .

IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD STRUGGLING AGAINST THE
DEADLY NUCLEAR POWER!!
