remove Maoists from terror watch list

US ambassador to Nepal Scott H. DeLisi met Maoist vice chairman Baburam
Bhattarai at the latter's residence in Sanepa, Lalitpur, on Friday, and
discussed the latest political developments in Nepal.

According to Bhattarai's aide Bishwodeep Pandey, the meeting dwelt mainly on
Nepal's ongoing peace process, constitution-drafting and the US government's
concern over these issues.

"Bhattarai told the US ambassador that the central committee meeting of his
party has decided to hold serious talks with other parties in order to take
the peace process and constitution-writing forward," Pandey told Nepalnews.

Bhattarai also mentioned that the US government should have already removed
the Maoists from its terrorist watch list by now.

In response, the US ambassador said that the initiatives to remove the
Maoist party from the list were on. According to him, the process is taking
time as Nepal's peace process is still in place.

The US ambassador went to meet Bhattarai hours after the Maoist central
committee meeting concluded.

The Maoist CC decided to concentrate on peace process and
constitution-drafting, putting its controversial 'revolt plan' on hold.
