Subramaniam Swami looked like a creep in the debate on television. He
could not defend one single allegation against the Koodankulam
movement. He was trying to communalise the agitation saying that it is
a `Christian Agenda' because some priests and nuns are involved in the
struggle. If you are a priest or a nun and you are around a nuclear
plant you have every right to protect yourself from the threat of
radiation. Dr. Uday Kumar is neither a priest or a nun. There are
protests in Delhi, Tuticorin, Chennai, Calicut, Payyannoor, Kannoor,
Trichur, Trivandrum and many other places against the police attack on
the villagers protesting against Koodankulam Plant. There are several
organisations in this country who would back the Koodankulam struggle.
Does Swamy think that this is all Christian
agenda? The Second arguement of Swamy is that the people's movement is
a foreign agenda. Any sensible person in this country will understand
that the only foreign agenda on this issue is nuclear energy itself,
since it is the agenda of the United States, France and Russia to dump
their outdated and risky technologies on our heads - a technology
which they cannot promote in their own countries any more. Apart from
this, the scientists all over the world have been confused about one
major problem. That is the problem of nuclear waste. None of them know
how to dispose the nuclear waste in a safe manner. I have one
solution. Dump it on the head of Subramaniam Swamy.
