Education is achievement of wisdom . A university degree will only help to attain a job , that is all . It will never make a man wise . And wisdom and faith (religion)cannot go parallely. Religious teachings (whichever religion it may be ) always pull a person towards ignorance .Faith is not wanting to know the truth . A man of faith ,or religion can never achieve wisdom. He will end up with his life reading Gita, bible or Khuran . So I cannot agree with his first comment that Madrasas and education should go hand in hand . The education he is talking about is professional degrees which will help a person only to get a job .

Here is an extract from the interview: What is the major problem confronting the Muslim community in India. What is the reason of backwardness of Muslims in India? Maulana Wahiduddin Khan: I have studied the problem in detail. I can say there is only one reason of their backwardness. That is their backwardness in secular education. There are numerous madrasas across the country, but madrasas are only to tell you about religion and how to pray. But how to live in this world, how to live in a society, that requires secular education. Muslims always complain about discrimination, but it is backwardness in education that they are unable to stand in competition. If you cannot stand in completion you cannot get jobs and other opportunities. All these jobs and opportunities are for those who are trained in modern discipline especially professional education. Muslims even don't know what is professional education. Of course Muslims started entering in secular education but that proved to be a nonstarter. Why? Because they established Muslim schools, Muslim colleges and Muslim universities. All these Muslim institutions are nothing but ghetto. The kind of education you get there cannot give you entrance in modern age. Should madrasas be converted into secular schools? No. Never. Madrasas are doing good service in their field. For religious teaching and religious identity they are our need. They are doing well. I don’t complain about madrasas. I don’t subscribe the notion that madrasas should be modernized. I am saying that Muslims have failed in secular and modern education. Has establishment pushed Muslims to educational backwardness? It is completely wrong to say. Muslims and their leadership are responsible themselves. It is wrong to say this and that is responsible for our backwardness. Quran says one gets according to his efforts. Muslim leaders failed to give Muslims modern thinking. Will Muslim political parties help the community increase their presence in Parliament and assemblies? It is a fact that Muslim political representation has declined in last some decades, but the reason is not political discrimination but the sole reason is that at every election, Muslim voters are divided. Muslims failed to avail this opportunity unitedly. If they are able to plan their vote they can send near about 100 members in parliament. Formation of Muslim political parties is not the solution. That will only increase their problems. In past they have formed so many political parties like Muslim Majlis but they failed to serve any purpose. What about stereotyping of Muslims as terrorist in media and film industry? Muslims are themselves to blame for it. Because Muslims always reacted negatively. For example, when Salman Rushdie published his book, Satanic Verses, all Muslims cried "Kill the author, Kill the author. That is terrorism. How can you say to kill the author, you have no right. Only judicial system has right to issue a verdict. Who are you to do that? You cannot take law in your hand. So when they called to kill the author, according to modern norms it is an act of terrorism. Muslims always try to kill people, sometimes they get success and sometimes not. For example in Pakistan, they have killed so many people without judicial verdict. That is terrorism. According to my definition, terrorism is use of arms by any agency other than state. You have no right to say kill Rushdie. You can publish another book, you can take the case to court. How can you say to kill this or that man? When something like Vishwaroopam or any such thing that Muslims say is against Islam or Prophet Muhammad, happens what should Muslims do? What is your guidance for Muslims? When a cartoon was published in some paper in Denmark, I published an article, the tile was Ignore Cartoons. This is my advice. Ignore Rushdie, Ignore Cartoon, Ignore Innocent of Muslims, Ignore Vishwaroopam. Why? Because it is waste of energy and time. There are so many works, like education, Dawah work, dissemination of teachings of Islam and Quran. All these work require your full attention. So ignore these things so that you can use your energy in some better filed. Divert your energies to education, avoid all other things. -- Peace Is Doable -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Green Youth Movement" group.
