I met Abdul Nazer Maudany last year in jail. What struck me most were his eyes. They reflected peace for humankind. I still can’t bear with the thought that the Indian State has destroyed these very eyes through their criminal negligence of not providing adequate health care at adequate time. We produced a poster at that time saying that the `A Blind Government is Blinding Maudany’. The reality was that it was also a blind mainstream media and a blind civil society apart from the terror outfits of BJP and the Indian State which removed the sight of Maudany. All of us responsible.
I was meeting him for the first time in my life . He seemed so peaceful in spite of facing various health problems. I asked him what can people like us can do for him. He said: `I am not the only one. There are thousands of innocent people who are fabricated in jails. I receive some moral support at least once in a while. But they don't. So do something for them.' I did not know what to tell this person. RSS destroyed his leg by throwing three bombs at him and this spiritual person forgave them. They put him behind bars for nothing for nine and a half years in jail and then the judge said `you are innocent’ and also warned the prosecution against such fabricated cases. He could have sued the government for compensation. He could have sued the really guilty officials who fafbricated him. But he did not chose to do that. He forgave all the `real’ criminals. Unfortunately, compassion is his weakness. There are enough sharks in this society to take advantage of this weakness of Maudany, including many people who respond on Maudany issue in the face book, without knowing anything about Maudany. Maudany has seen only three bombs in his life. And they were the bombs thrown at him by the RSS in Kollam. No human being in India has faced such grave human rights violation through entirely fabricated charges. A blind civil society can always produce a blind Government. K.P.
