"There was perception in the chief minister's mind that the lady architect in question was passing on information to me," Sharma told TOI , claiming that the CM's fear about the woman's connection to him resulted in his suspension and implication in half-a-dozen "false" cases. Sharma's charges are the latest in the snoopgate scandal<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Scandal> after two websites released tapes indicating former minister of state for home and close Modi aide Amit Shah<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Amit-Shah> closely monitored and directed surveillance of the woman and Sharma. Sharma said the woman had confided in him about her contact over email and SMSes with Modi and on one occasion showed him a message from a cellphone used by the chief minister. He had noted the number and dialed it later to check if it was indeed Modi's number. This, he felt, led a discreet tap on him even as he received a web link allegedly pertaining to the woman architect. He mentioned it on phone and this, he feels, led to state agencies being used to getting the link or disc from him. Sharma said the woman, who knew both him and Modi, had appeared in a compromising position in a video clip with a person. He said he was victimized — seven cases were slapped against him by the Modi government — because the chief minister believed that the film featured him. "When they didn't find anything, one person approached me in jail and said the matter would be closed if it handed over the video clip." Sharma also said that if he was stalking her, why did the woman meet him at the behest of the chief minister? Sharma said there was a grave threat to his life "because what I say directly damages Modi and his crony Amit Shah". That is the reason why he had sought a change of cadre from Gujarat to some other state. He said his was a "professional fake encounter" and he had moved the SC earlier to explain the real reason behind his victimization. However, the court had directed him to withdraw the portions dealing with the woman on the ground that he would be punished if the grave charges against the CM were not substantiated. However, backed by evidence after the leak of the tapes recorded by IPS officer G L Singhal, he had come back to the SC with a much stronger case. Singhal tapes show Shah instructing the IPS officer at the behest of his 'saheb', who the Congress alleges is Modi himself. He said the court should find out if the telephone tapping was done legally or not. "It is not a question of the woman's father giving a clean chit to Modi... what about my privacy which was violated...I wasn't a terrorist to have deserved this." Soon after the snoopgate came to light, the woman's father wrote letters to national and state women's commission claiming the surveillance on his daughter was following a request.
