Date and Time: 3pm-5pm, December 2, 2013

Concept: In the face of severe man-made accidents, governments tend to
protect the corporations responsible rather than the victims. We have seen
this in both the Bhopal and Fukushima disasters. This seminar will discuss
the history and reasons for government inaction and cover-up and the
resulting people’s movements which spring up to fight for justice and
policy change. The present and possible future impacts of these movements
will also be examined.

Speakers:

N.D. Jayaprakash is the Joint Secretary of the Delhi Science Forum and
Co-Convenor of the Bhopal Gas Peedith Sangharsh Sahyog Samiti, a survivor’s
organization. He has been an active member of the Coalition for Nuclear
Disarmament and Peace(CNDP)

Jeff Kingston is a professor at Temple University, Japan, where he is
Director of Asian Studies. He has written extensively on the Fukushima
nuclear disaster and its social and political impacts.
