Our findings show that all three have a significant percentage of fake followers, though Narendra Modi is miles ahead of the other two as far as fake followers are concerned. Narendra Modi who claims to be the ‘Samrat’ of the twitter world as he has the highest number of Twitter followers among Indian Politicians also has the ignominy of having the highest percentage of fake followers. We further developed our tool twfollowers<https://github.com/freethinker/twfollowers>to identify a category of twitter users who exclusively follow one particular person and no one else, who have never tweeted, have no followers themselves and still use the default twitter image (egg). Very often these twitter ids have a lot of numeric characters which ordinarily would make such ids extremely different to remember. The companies who make fake twitter ids however fall back on numeric characters because that makes it easier for them to find a unique twitter id which is a requirement when one registers with Twitter. These are the kind of accounts which are most likely to be fake. Today we are presenting 10726 twitter users, all of whose accounts were created before May 31st, 2013, and they fit the criteria that we just described above i.e. they exclusively follow Narendra Modi, have never tweeted, have no followers themselves and still use the default twitter image. Such accounts created on a mass scale, most of which must be fake can only be the handiwork of an organized group or a company. Since there is no restraint put on Twitter as a company, such fraudulent transactions are very difficult to detect as the identity of the user remains a closely guarded secret with the company.
