The (obvious) irony is that an economic downturn, instead of inaugurating a march towards socialism, is triggering a rise of various fascist groups - sort of a (much) toned down version of what had happened in 1930s.
Quite relevant and noteworthy is the fact that both the two most major revolutions spearheaded by political forces professing Marxism did take place against the backdrops of war, not economic crisis per se. And, of course, no "(socialist) revolution", led by self-identified Marxists, did ever take place in any "democratic" country with the sole exception of the very first case i.e. Russia in November 1917, which had become "democratic" by putting an end to monarchic rule only about 9 months back - and the "socialist" revolution was virtually a continuation of the preceding "democratic" one, just about 9 months back, with a brief pause in between. It is pretty much surprising that the level of awareness about these basic facts appears to be abysmally low among "Marxists" of all (widely varying) shades.
