*A fear has been expressed that the NDA government is planning to change
two key provisions of the act which are regarding 'consent' and 'Social
Impact Assessment'*

*Mumbai : *National Alliance of People's Movement (NAPM) would oppose any
attempt by the Union government to change the Right to Fair Compensation,
Transparency in Land Acquisition, Resettlement and Rehabilitation Act-
2013, alliance leader Medha Patkar has said.

In a statement issued by the alliance, a fear has been expressed that the
NDA government at the center is planning to change two of the key
provisions of the act which are regarding 'consent' and 'Social Impact
Assessment'. These provisions were introduced to do away with the anomalies
in the colonial act, since farmers and weaker sections dependent on the
land were never consulted or made a participant in the process of
development planning.

NAPM has also demanded that Ministry of Rural Development should work on
implementing the Act by drafting the rules for its implementation and get
States to do the same. They have also demanded mandatory SIA provisions for
the irrigation projects and establishment of a National Resettlement and
Rehabilitation Commission on urgent basis.

NAPM has also called upon progressive forces, people's movements and
political parties to join this fight against corporate loot of the natural
resources at the cost of livelihood of the millions.
