Subject: ABA Application for Survivors of 2002 and HRDs Setalvad and Anand
adjourned to September 8, 2014

August 26, 2014

Today, August 26, 2014 the hearing of the Anticipatory Bail Application of
Three Survivors of the Gulberg Society Massacre of 2002, Tanvir Jafri,
Salim Sandhi and Firoz Gulzar Pathan and two human rights defenders, Javed
Anand and Teesta Setalvad got adjourned to September 8, 2014.

Advocates Mihir Thakore and Mihir Desai were present for the five accused
but after the matter was kept back to the afternoon, the state government
advocate asked for time. The simple application for the protection of life
and liberty has been kept back in this vindictive and malafide complaint by
the brute insistence of the Gujarat Police --despite all frivolous queries
being answered in detail. The Citizens for Justice and Peace, an
organisation led by Setalvad has, along with Survivors of the 2002 carnage
been responsible for a collective struggle within the Courts that has
ensured that 122 perpetrators of the 2002 carnage being convicted to life
imprisonment. The PUCL India, Amnesty International, Advocates for Human
Rights and other prominent Indian citizens including Justices BN Srikrishna
and PB Sawant have issued public appeals in support of all five accused who
have been wrongly victimised for the past eight months.
