[The fact that a girl and a boy together ran away, and they had been
born in different religions, hardly by itself indicates any "jihad" or
an organised venture as the causative factor as is being alleged; for
that one will have to provide evidence of the existence of such an
organisation and its workings.

Btw, Muthaik himself has reportedly conceded that the number 22 over a
period of five years is too small. (Ref.: ""The number of cases may be
low, but it's because most cases are not even reported," he said." at
<http://indianexpress.com/article/cities/mumbai/muthalik-finds-cases-of-love-jihad-in-state-cites-rti-info/>.)"***And
the police has reportedly rejected the notion of "Love Jihad".***

It'd be interesting to know how many Hindu boys and Muslim girls ran
away during the same period.

The reported fact that the parents of the girls lodged the complaints
only goes to show (strong) parental disapproval of their (presumably
adult) daughters' (rightful) decisions - nothing less, nothing more.

So, in absence of any relevant evidence and given the track record of
the organisations spearheading the campaign, it's only a jihad based
on deliberately fabricated lies meant to arouse communal passion and
hatred to polarise the society along the religious divides.]

Hindu right-wing leader Pramod Muthalik on Friday demanded an enquiry
into marriages between Hindu girls and Muslim boys in the state.

Mr Muthalik distributed an RTI reply sought from the Maharashtra
police that mentioned that the state has registered 22 cases of 'love
jihad' between 2008 and 2011. However, ***the police has said that it
hasn't recognised anything like this*** [emphasis added]. Mr Muthalik
even criticised Union home minister Rajnath Singh for refusing to
acknowledge anything like love jihad.

Alleging that love jihad is an organised crime, Mr Muthalik said Hindu
girls marrying Muslim boys were being victimised. "I have rescued
3,800 girls from love jihad and converted them back. However, we
condemn our home minister Rajnath Singh who refuses to recognise love
jihad. The government should investigate and collect data of such
cases. We are going to hold a protest before Mr Singh's residence with
the victims" he said.

***An RTI reply sought from Maharashtra police by one Sudhanshu Joshi
also found that 22 cases of love jihad were registered in the state.
The RTI was issued in 2013 and signed by the then IG Deven Bharati.***
[Emphasis added.]

"The RTI reply from the Maharashtra police officially quotes 22 cases
of love jihad and we congratulate them for recognising the cases. The
Union home minister should learn from the Maharashtra police and
initiate action against love jihad," he said.

***However, when contacted, Mr Bharati said the police does not
recognise love jihad***. [Emphasis added.]

"There was a query raised by Shiv Sena leader Diwakar Raote in the
legislative council about love jihad quoting the figures from local
newspapers. The information given by the right-wing organisation must
be incomplete," he said.
