#GoHomeIndianMedia says Nepal on Twitter: Citizens want them to leave immediately by FP Staff May 3, 2015 19:08 IST Days after Nepal's debilitating earthquake that killed over 7,000 people and injured more than 14,000 made waves in the India and abroad, Nepal is not too happy with certain sections of the Indian media. AFP The relentless coverage has come under severe criticism from Nepali citizens and on World Press Freedom Day, the hashtag #GoHomeIndianMedia was a top trend, a pointed criticism their "insensitive" reporting. So far, there have been more than 70,000 tweets [reportedly it has crossed a lakh by now] under this hashtag and the people of Nepal have taken to twitter by the thousands to grumble about the coverage of an earthquake that has left Nepal in ruins and has displaced thousands. Accusing the Indian media of using the devastating earthquake as a publicity platform for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Nepali youth used Twitter and Facebook to vent their anger and frustration, demanding the Indian journalists leave Nepal as soon as possible. While they have thanked India for their aid and help over the past few days, it's clear that the Indian media have not won any brownie points among locals. Apart from being insensitive, the Indian media have been accused of fabricating stories, conducting insensitive interviews of earthquake survivors and broadcasting 'dramatic soap opera TV serials-like' news coverage.
