["In India too, communities like the Khaps have banned women from
wearing jeans and carrying mobile phones. This type of moral policing
in the name of religion or tradition is nothing but an indirect way
for men to assert their dominance over women. Is it only women's
responsibility to follow the society's traditions? If jeans are the
cause of a natural disaster, then why are boys are allowed to wear
it?"

Of course those dumb-headed bigots who are clamouring against girls
wearing jeans will be only too happy if they can make even boys desist
from it. But that's a much tougher project. So focus on the perceived
soft target. And, the gender bias is only too deep-seated.]

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman blames
jeans wearing women for earthquakes; calls Pakistan army to launch
military operation!

In last two months, several earthquakes jolted various parts of Nepal,
China, India, Indonesia and Japan. Nepal was badly hit by earthquake
that claimed thousands of lives. Several aftershocks also rattled the
Kingdom nation and other South Asian countries. While scientists were
looking to find the answers for the cause of sudden earthquakes, a
religious leader from Pakistan has pinned the blame on women wearing
jeans for causing the natural disaster.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islami Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said
that women wearing jeans for problems like inflation and earthquake.
Maulana Rehman asked the Pakistani armed forces to launch a military
operation against "jeans-wearing women" across the country. The
religious leader also defended the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a
terror organization and said that army should stop attacking TTP.

"The Taliban are our brothers and their angst against the state is
justified," Maulana Fazl said adding that, "and so there is a need to
earmark and eliminate the real enemy of Pakistan: every woman who
wears jeans." (Also read: Uttar Pradesh Khap Panchayat bans jeans and
mobile for girls to 'curb' eve-teasing)

If we go with the words of Maulana Fazal then banning jeans for women
will save us from earthquake and inflation. Will he bother to explain
that how women wearing jeans can bring economic crisis? Will he bother
to explain how women wearing jeans can cause earthquake? Is there any
logic behind his farcical statement? Will he bother to explain what
caused earthquakes before jeans were invented? Perhaps if his parents
had educated him, he would have developed some sense to not utter such
illogical reasons.

***In India too, communities like the Khaps have banned women from

for men to assert their dominance over women. Is it only women's

cause of a natural disaster, then why are boys are allowed to wear
it?*** [Emphasis added.]
