India continues to obstruct Nepal bound freights for third consecutive day - Post Report, Kathmandu Sep 25, 2015- The Indian authorities on Friday continued to stop the Nepal bound freights at major entry points to Nepal from India in the name of tightening security measures. Indian customs officials have been obstructing the goods carrier vehicles, LPG bullets and oil tankers at Nepal-India border citing security reasons in Nepal’s Tarai region and orders from above. The movement of freight trucks has been obstructed at key entry points in Biratnagar, Kakadbhitta, Birgunj, Bhairahawa and Nepalgunj. Sunauli border in Rupandehi has not seen any vehicular movements except two empty freight-trucks since Friday morning. Apparently upset over the promulgation of new constitution, Indian side started holding up Nepal bound freights at the border since Wednesday. The India has been expressing serious concerns over increased violence in Tarai region and has been urging the government to resolve the crisis through dialogue. During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar, Minister Adhikari, who is also in charge of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, sought cooperation from the Indian government for uninterrupted movement of vehicles carrying essential supplies to Nepal as before. Highlighting the significance of excellent relations existing between the two governments and peoples, Minister Adhikari stressed on the need to remove the lapses in the supply chain that has surfaced in recent days, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also assured that there would not be any security problem inside the Nepali territory for the transport vehicles since arrangements are already in place for their security. Minister Adhikari also reiterated full commitment to ensuring security of life and property of the Indian nationals in Nepal. In response, Ambassador Rae said that he would convey the issues raised by the Minister to the higher authorities of the Indian Government.
