FTII students hold parallel film festival Lisa Monteiro,TNN | Nov 24, 2015, 03.00 PM IST PANAJI: The Festival of Student Films from FTII kicked off amidst tight security at Nossa Senhora de Piedade Institute, roughly one km from the venue of the ongoing 46th edition of the IFFI. Ex-FTII student Aadesh Keluskar's ten minute film based on students and the treatment meted out to them in a remand home, opened the parallel film festival. Kislay, FTII student who was arrested at the opening ceremony of IFFI for shouting slogans said they were being treated like suspected terrorists. Prateek Vats, an ex-student of FTII said they were doing nothing illegal and were only trying to screen films. It was odd he said that films at IFFI showcased problems around the world, while pressing problems in India were being ignored. The two day festival will screen 21 films made by FTII students including three films that have been selected for screening in the Indian Panorama section at IFFI. An entire bunch of films including some on the FTII protest had to be kept out of the festival after the institute received a letter from the District Magistrate North Goa questioned whether films scheduled for screenings were certified by the Censor Board of India. The first round of films were watched by social rights activist Adv Albertina Almeida, All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) general secretary Christopher Fonseca, Adv Thalman Pereira, Ad-hoc secretary AAP Goa Valmiki Naik, writer Jason Keith Fernandes, filmmaker Saeed Mirza, among others.
