Power generation in Kudankulam's first plant to begin again after six months

Koodankulam (Tamil Nadu), Jan. 14 (ANI): Kudankulam Nuclear Power
Plant site director R.S. Sundar has said the power generation in the
first unit, which was stopped for maintenance for six months, will
begin again next week.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalaithaa had written a letter to Prime
Minister Narendra Modi, urging him for the revival of power generation
in the nuclear unit.

Sundar said at present testing of valves is being done, thereafter
hydro test of the device will be conducted.

Atomic Energy Regulatory Board officials stationed at the plant will
give the go ahead to the power generation once the parameters are
complete.

He said till now 687.5 million units of electricity had been generated
with Rs 1,565 crore. The first unit of Kudankulam nuclear power plant
achieved criticality in July 2014. (ANI)
