Thes statement of Pinarayi Vijayan says that `we are not against UAPA, but
against its misuse'. It does not appeal to him that UAPA is a blatant
violation of Indian Constitution. Many legal experts have even demanded the
repeal of UAPA just on its high potential of misuse itself. If Pinarayi
Vijayan stands for sustaining democracy in this country, he has to take a
stand on all draconian laws in this country which provide absolute powers
to the State and its machineries to initiate human rights violations on
thousands of innocent people. No democracy will survive, if the
institutions of State are given absolute unaccountable powers over its
people. It is high time that the left forces come out more strongly not
just against UAPA but against all draconian laws, which function as the
facilitating steps for the emergence of fascism in this country.
