The 10 youths detained by Delhi Police for suspected ideological
leaning towards banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) have now been
released due to lack of adequate evidence.

While four of them were released on Saturday with Delhi Police having
arranged for them sessions with a clinical psychologist to help them
“deradicalise”, guardians of the remaining six released on Monday had
to give undertakings ensuring that their wards will be on the “right
path” henceforth.

Delhi Police’s anti-terrorism unit Special Cell had picked up 13
youths from Delhi and U.P. after a series of late night raids on May
3, following which three — Sajid, Sameer Ahmed, and Shakir Ansari —
were arrested and the remaining 10 detained for questioning.

“The remaining six youths have been let off with the condition that
they have to make themselves available for questioning whenever
summoned. Their guardians have given undertaking that they will make
sure the boys lead their lives in the right path in future,” Special
Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Arvind Deep said.

There is no arrangement with psychiatrist for the six unlike the other
four who have to visit a clinical psychologist on a regular basis. The
psychologist will provide the investigators with a report on their
progress every week, he said.

During questioning, it emerged that the youths had extreme anger
within them as a result of which they were vulnerable, making them
potential inductees in terror rings, Mr. Deep said, adding that so far
there is no evidence to make further arrests in the case.

6 more suspects with alleged JeM links let off

Rajshekhar Jha | TNN | May 9, 2016, 05.57 AM IST

New Delhi: A day after letting off four of the 10 suspects detained
for alleged links to the Jaish-e-Mohammad, Delhi Police's special cell
released the remaining six youths as well on Sunday.

After questioning them for three days, police said they found no
evidence to show that the 10 were involved in plotting a terror
strike. The youths, however, admitted to attending indoctrination
sessions conducted by the prime accused, Sajid, sources claimed.

Meanwhile, police said evidence against three other youths arrested in
the case became stronger after the special cell received a preliminary
forensic report of the trio's mobile phones and Facebook accounts,
which now confirms their links with Jaish functionaries.

Sources said, according to the report, Sajid had uploaded a photo of
Masood Azhar on Facebook and was also in touch with two Pakistan
nationals, Rashid Aman and Sajjad Gori, who are known Jaish
operatives.

Sajid had messaged Masood's brother Talha that he and another accused,
Shaqir, wished to undergo arms training and wanted a visa to come to
Pakistan. Talha did not reply, the sources said.

The move to release 10 detainees suspected of links with
Jaish-e-Mohammad was welcomed by their families and preachers, who
praised the police's decision of thoroughly probing them instead of
making hasty arrests.

However, sources added that two of the 10 youths are still under the
scanner for calls and messages they exchanged with Sajid. All 10 are
being counselled by a maulana, Abdur Raziq, and a psychiatrist. The
law of the land is being explained to them and they are being told how
they were being fed a `doctored' version of the Koran and jihad,
sources said.

Police would keep them under surveillance, tracking their movements
through manual and electronic means for the next one year, cops said.
The 10 were picked up last Tuesday and Wednesday . Police had also
arrested three other men, including the alleged JeM module head,
Sajid, for conspiring to carry out terror strikes in NCR.
