Of The Country', Held With Rs 20.5 L New Currency

In what could be a huge embarrassment for BJP, a youth leader of the
party's Tamil Nadu unit has been arrested with Rs 20.5 lakhs in new
currency notes.

BJP youth wing secretary from Salem, J V R Arun, who had actively been
campaigning for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation drive
was arrested by Tamil Nadu police on Saturday during a routine vehicle
check.

Police have recovered 926 pieces of Rs 2,000 currency, 1530 of Rs 100
and 1000 pieces of Rs 50 currency were found from him. He has not been
able to show the source of the money in his possession, despite being
granted time to furnish his bank details.

Ironically, Arun who was a supporter of the demonetisation drive had
just a couple of days ago posted on his Facebook page that “For the
progress of my country, I am ready to stand in the queue.”

Police said they are probing the incident, including the involvement
of bank officials. The party state unit which was left red-faced has
now issued a show-cause notice to him and removed Arun from all
official posts.
