The communists should not follow the logic of `eye for the eye'. That logic
is more suitable to the fascists. The Students Federation of India in Kerala
should learn some political wisdom from the early communist comrade Krishna
Pillai. Once comrade Krishna Pillai was badly beaten up by the Congress
goons and he was hospitalised. Other communist leaders including my own
father, K. Damodaran rushed to the hospital in order to find their comrade
in extremely bad condition with bandages all over his body as well as his
head. Unbearable to watch their comrade in such a situation, the communist
leaders decided that they should take immediate revenge. But Krishna Pillai
opposed. His argument was that `we must oppose them politically in this
situation and not physically'. Finally, all the leaders agreed with him. If
the communist movement has made a dent in Kerala, it is because of the
politics which they have expressed in favour of the marginalised and not
because of their physical poower. If in Bengal they are losing out, it is
entirely due to the expression of physical power rather than their politics
in favour of the marginalised. I hope some leaders within the communist
movement in Kerala will follow the wisom of comrade Krishna Pillai and
guide the youth in Kerala.
