On the Sabarimala debate, I would take a stand that both men and women should be allowed to go to Sabarimala. At the same time, the enviornmental factors have to be taken into consideration. The entry of men in large numbers to Sabarimala has already destroyed the forests and also the Pampa river. An additional population of women may destroy further. Therefore, I would suggest a drastic cut of 90 per cent of entry of men and an increase of equal 10 per cent of women to Sabarimala. Spiritual tourism should not mean destruction of the planet. Often, customs and traditions can become patriarchal in nature, violating the rights of women. Therefore, entry to men and women in equal numbers must be allowed. But there is an additional ecological issue also, which should not be forgotten. I have heard that that the LDF is planning to push for an air port for Sabarimala. This is ridiculous. Development doesn’t mean that you need airports in every 50 kilo meters in Kerala. Kerala has enough airports. Therefore, please think of other developmental and real estate rackets which are more convincing.
