Democracy will survive only if social organisations, activists, students
and youth movements, people’s movements working on various issues,
journalists, lawyers, academicians and other professionals, opposition
parties and the civil society keep a close watch on the misuse of public
money by the political parties in power. They want to make India into a
cashless economy like Sweden. But the people of Sweden receive free
education, almost free health care (even for complicated surgeries),
economic protection of the unemployed, old and the unprivileged. Social
welfare is more or less guaranteed in countries like Sweden. Why don’t you
try to model the positive sides of Sweden? If the public needs benefits
from the care takers of their money, they will have to keep a close watch
on where their money is spent – for the welfare of the rich and powerful or
for the needs and necessities of the people? And if the civil society
starts such negotiations in India, there will be a flood of corruption
deals that will get opened up! The Indian State is increasingly
scrutinising the dissenting voices from the activists, people’s movements,
NGOs, academicians, lawyers, media professionals and any individual or
social organisation, using their intelligence wings and police machinery.
It is time now, for the people to scrutinise the Indian State.
