That's quite an interesting piece of reporting, considering that it
has been cariied by an Indian newspaper.]

New Delhi: Pakistan on Saturday sent back an Indian soldier who had
crossed into Pakistan administered Kashmir several months ago.

Chandu Babulal Chohan had crossed the de facto line of control border
dividing Kashmir into Indian and Pakistan administered regions on 29
September — the day India said it had conducted surgical strikes on
terrorist launch pads in Pakistan administered Kashmir — taking out
six to eight such structures.

The relatively unusual move by Pakistan to return the Indian soldier
comes amid tensions between the two neighbours and peace talks being
suspended since 2013.

In New Delhi, a government official confirmed Chohan had returned to
India through the Wagah border — one of the few land crossings between
India and Pakistan who have fought four wars since 1947.

“The Indian soldier deserted his check post in the Indian occupied
Jammu and Kashmir and crossed the Line of Control (LoC) over severe
grievances with his superiors and leadership. Pakistan convinced the
soldier to return to India being an Indian national and address his
grievances through local grievance mechanisms,” a statement from the
Pakistan foreign office said.

soldier is based on humanitarian grounds and the commitment to ensure
peace and tranquillity at the LoC and the Working Boundary. Despite

rejects all actions aimed at undermining regional peace and security,”
it added.

India Pakistan ties nosedived last year in January after a thaw —
which saw Indian prime minister Narendra Modi and Indian foreign
minister Sushma Swaraj visit Pakistan. Modi’s visit was the first by
an Indian prime minister in more than a decade.

Tensions cropped up in India Pakistan ties after the 2 January
terrorist attack on the Pathankot Air Force station. Subsequent
terrorist attacks on an army garrison in Uri and another in Nagrota
soured ties further.
