Today’s Times of India (Mumbai Edition) and Indian Express start with a full page advertisement in front saying `Good Governance is all about Good Leadership’. On the top of this massive advertisement which people buy for reading news, there is an image of Shivaji on a horseback and a much larger image of Narendra Modi. You and I know why Shivaji is placed on the advertisement. But why did he become smaller in comparison with the image of Modi? Within the political calculations of competition with the Shiv Sena which is trying to push the largest statue in the world in the Arabian Sea spending 3600 crores, technically the image of Modi should be smaller. Secondly, is good governance all about good leadership? Is there a role for the cabinet and parliament in good governance? Thirdly, is good governance spending public money for self promotion? It is okay if you grab people’s money through demonitisation for your corporate friends. But why do you use it for self promotion? Is Good Governance All About Good Self Promotion?
