Bhagavan Satya Sai Baba could get a wrist watch made by Seiko company from the sky to give it to his devotees. Obviously, the Syko company did not manufacture it from the air. This magic was exposed by the well known rationalist Dr. Abraham Kovoor and many others several decades back. But Bhagwan Namo went a step further. He could change the colour of your currency notes and their numbers inside your purse. Dr. Kovoor is not alive. But Namo's devotees are! It is not that the present Bhagawan’s magic is more supernatural than that of the earlier one. It is not that the present magician has got rid of corruption, black money and everything he had promised through his magic. But what the civil society in a democracy like India should ask is one important question. It took so long for the people to protest against demonitisation. Any idea why? Is it connected to the supernatural powers of the Bhagawan or the sheer lack of political will of the activists, opposition parties and mass organisations? Is the arrival of fascism due to the power of the fascists or due to the lack political will of those who hold by the values of secularism, democracy, justice, peace and harmony? I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bhagwan becomes super Bhagwan in the coming elections. It is time to reflect upon the social, economic, cultural and political cost of SILENCE!
