Chief Justice of India ‘rules’ on allegations of corruption involving SC judges
By JKR Staff - February 22, 2017

Chief Justice of India, Justice Khehar, has reportedly ruled on the
plea on a letter addressed to him by the wife of former Arunachal
Pradesh Chief Minister Kalikho Pul.

In her letter, Dangwimsai Pul, the first wife of Kalikho Pul, had
sought the registration of FIR against Supreme Court judges, who had
allegedly attempted to blackmail the deceased former chief minister.

A report by Indian Express said that Judtice Kheher had passed an
order on Tuesday night in favour of lodging of an FIR.

In the 60-page suicide note left behind Pul, the former chief
minister, who committed suicide on 9 August, had alleged that
relatives of two judges had, via some individuals, wanted money from
Pul in exchange for ensuring that President’s rule in Arunachal would
not be declared illegal.

Meanwhile, the family members of Kalikho Pul on Tuesday expressed
concern over the “misuse” of the 60 page note ‘Mere Vichar’, penned by
the former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister days before his suicide,
for vested interest.

Five relatives of Pul in an appeal said, “It is very unfortunate and
distressing for the family that the note is being used by some
individuals for vested political interest.” “We strongly oppose any
misuse of the note for political purpose as it is a very emotional
issue concerning the whole family and we believe that no person or
individual has the right to exploit or play with their emotions,” they
said. “The entire family is struggling hard to come to terms with the
loss of a dear and senior member of the family and we are still living
in immense mental and psychological trauma,” the family said.

Pul had committed suicide on 9 August last year at his official residence.

“Gradually, we have been learning to move ahead by coming to terms
with the sorrow, pain and grief but the latest development has yet
again jolted, shaken and disturbed the whole family,” the appeal said.

“Since the issue is emotive, sentimental and soulful for the family,
it should not be used for vested political purpose,” the family said.

The members comprised Pul’s brother Bajaj Pul, nephews Muhilum Pul,
Batong Pul, Ahoso Pul and Goneso Pul. Welcoming the state government’s
decision to refer the case to the Union Home Ministry for probe by any
agency as deemed fit, the members said the family wants a “free and
impartial investigation into the whole matter”.

“We hope that since the matter has been referred to the Home Ministry,
everything will come out in the open in the days to come,” they said.

Appealing to people to maintain calm, they said as the matter is sub
judice and under investigation, drawing any conclusion at this
juncture would be premature and inappropriate. The members also
appealed to the state government to immediately provide security to
Dangwimsai Pul, the first wife of the former chief minister, as
according to media reports, she has been receiving threat calls.

The family members condemned a committee constituted under the
nomenclature ‘Mere Vichar Andolon Committee’ which had been asking for
donations from the public to continue their agitation. The committee
has been demanding CBI inquiry into the contents of the note. “We
request the people not to donate any amount to the committee which we
believe will be an insult to the departed soul,” they said in the
appeal.

The contents of the note were made public by a news portal on February
8. The note which was found near Pul’s body by the police mentions
several “deliberate irregularities” by the state leaders and Supreme
Court judges over the years.
