The Sanghis realise that education is breaking their concept of `Hindutva
Nation’ . Therefore the campaign called `Stop Funding JNU from My Taxes’
was initiated. The note for the campaign says: `We request you to please
withdraw subsidies granted to JNU and other similar institution, also
utilize same money for proper education for lakhs of deprived children’.
Now what does the demand for withdrawal of subsidies granted to JNU and
`other similar institutions’ mean? Other similar institutions can mean
Aligarh Muslim University or Delhi University or TISS. Whoever has
initiated the post may not be aware that funding for educational
institutions are cut in a major way today. Govt. of India, UGC and many
state governments are already doing this. The idea of privatisation of
education has already taken deeper roots under Modi regime. This is nothing
new. Many students have been suffering because of this. Secondly, the note
says: `... also utilize same money for proper education for lakhs of
deprived children’. The author of the note perhaps does not know that under
Indian Constitution, education is a right and not a charity. All Education
including that is in JNU has to be made free, not just for those who are
under the age of 14. If countries like Sweden and Finland can implement
Indian Constitution, then India can also do it. Meaningful utilisation of
your taxes means: `Stop Funding more than half of the Indian Budget on
defense and denfense related areas, so that draconian laws like AFSPA will
not have a ground, violating all norms of human rights. Make education,
health, water, roads, bridges and all such services free for all, and
respect such services as rights of citizens. That is what taxes are meant
for. Not to give it to Adanis and Ambanis and use it for the self promotion
of a leader of the party which rules.
