Well known writer Satchidanandan will be delivering a talk for the Bishop Mar Poulose Memorial Lecture on 'The Crisis of Secularism: In Theory and Practice' at Trichur later in March . Prof. Satchidandan says: `For those of you who did not know Mar Poulose: he was a different kind of Bishop the present Pope would have loved: radical, forthright, true to the spirit of Jesus the rebel '.
Bishop Mar Poulose left some deep memories among many people. He was an extremely unassuming, intelligent and interesting person. I used to walk into his Bishop's house in front of the police club in Thrissur, without any appointment and spend hours to discuss with him. Though he was much above my age, the differences on the length of the age never came in between our heated arguments, which went on some times till late night. His PHD thesis was on Marxism and Christianity. I believe he did good work on his subject. He was a good ally for many social movements when he was alive. These days, they don't produce such bishops any more in Kerala. And I am sure with Prof. Satchidanandan's presence in the memorial lecture, He will receive the rightful space where ought to belong in the history of liberation theology, politics, literature and social movements.
