Mumbai, Mar 3 Vitthal Lokhare, a corporator from Mankhurd-Shivajinagar
area of the city, would be the congress candidate for March 8 election
to the Mayor's post.

City Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam told PTI that Lokhare, a four-time
corporator, will file the nomination tomorrow.

"I approached NCP and Samajwadi Party seeking support for our
candidate. NCP's Sachin Ahir has said their nine corporators will
support us. We are waiting for reply from the Samajwadi Party,"
Nirupam said.

In the 227-member civic body, Congress has 31 corporators, NCP nine
and Samajwadi Party six.

Shiv Sena emerged as the single largest party with 84 seats in the
February 21 elections, but fell short of the halfway figure of 114.
