I do not agree with Pinarayi Vijayan’s policies, especially with the total
compromise with capitalists like Adani to generate profits for corporations
at the cost of fisher people’s lives, livelihood, coastal ecology, marine
ecology and destruction of two hills from the western ghats in Kerala and
Tamil Nadu using public money. But at the same time, when an RSS/BjP leader
publicly incites murder of Pinarayi Vijayan with a promise of one crore for
his head, it is something for those who live under this democracy to
question such terrorism. Pinarayi Vijayan is an elected chief minister in
Kerala state under sovereign India. If they can kill Gandhi, killing an
elected chief minister may be a small time affair. But whether the secular,
democratic and peace loving citizens in this country will stand as just
observers to such terrorist threats is a question to the civil society. For
I believe that even Pinarayi Vijayan has a right to life as much as RSS/BJP
leaders in this country. It is high time that the civil society intervenes
in such situations to demand that such terrorist politics should be put to
an end and that the political differences must be addressed in a democratic
manner accepted under the values of Indian Constitution.
