On Hotline, Pakistan Warns India Against 'Disadventures', Threatens Response

Indian soldiers' mutilation by Pak: The martyrs were paid tributes this morning.

NEW DELHI: India today warned Pakistan of an "unequivocal" response
to the killing and mutilation of two soldiers yesterday along the Line
of Control in Kashmir. Pakistan, which has denied the barbaric act,
said in response today that India "should look inwards" to determine
how the soldiers were killed, sought "actionable evidence" of India's
claims, and warned "any disadventure shall be appropriately responded
at a place and time of own choosing."

The recriminations were exchanged between top commanders of India and
Pakistan - the Director General of Military Operations, Lieutenant
General AK Bhatt, spoke on a hotline to his counterpart across the
border hours after Delhi warned that the army will exact revenge for
the atrocities committed on Prem Sagar and Naib Subedar Paramjit
Singh. Both men were part of a team patrolling the Line of Control or
de facto border in the Poonch sector last morning when two posts were
assaulted with rockets and mortar bombs.

The soldiers - one from the Border Security Force and the other from
the army - were honoured as heroes this morning before their bodies
were transported to their families in Tarn Taran in Punjab and Deoria
in Uttar Pradesh. Prem Sagar's daughter said "We want 50 heads to
avenge him."

India says a team of Pakistani soldiers and terrorists sneaked past
the Line of Control and entered Indian territory under the cover of
heavy fire from the Pakistani army, "Full fire support provided by Pak
Army Post located in vicinity of the incident," India conveyed over
the hotline today, describing the mutilation of the soldiers as a
"dastardly and inhuman act" deserving of "unequivocal condemnation and
response."

In September, India responded to a massive attack by Pakistani
terrorists on an army camp in Uri in Kashmir by sending soldiers
across the Line of Control to take out staging areas for terrorists in
Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Delhi warned at the time that it could
repeat the action.

RAWALPINDI: Local commanders of the Indian and Pakistani armies made
hotline contact on Monday night in the Rawalakot-Poonch sector along
the Line of Control (LoC), the military’s media wing Inter Services
Public Relations said in a statement.

The contact came in the wake of Indian allegations that Pakistani
troops had killed and mutilated the bodies of two Indian soldiers. A
claim the Pakistani military has denied.

“Indian counterpart was told that there has been no CFV (ceasefire
violation) or crossing of the line of control by Pakistani troops from
Pakistan side nor mutilation of Indian soldiers bodies,” the ISPR
statement said.

“Indian authorities were told that there is unnecessary media hype
following the allegations. Pakistan remains fully committed to
maintain peace and tranquility along the LOC and expect same from
other side and hope prudence is exercised and no steps are taken that
may lead to vitiating of environment and affect peace along LOC,” it
added.

DGMO seeks actionable evidence

Later, during a “routine weekly hotline contact” with his Indian
counterpart, Pakistan Army DGMO reiterated the military’s stance over
baseless and unfounded allegations.

“DGMO highlighted that Pakistan Army is a professional military outfit
and upholds the highest standards of conduct,” the ISPR said in a
statement.

Asking for actionable evidence from his Indian counterpart, the DGMO
urged that Indian Army should look inwards to probe the incident.

On Monday, the Indian army had claimed that Pakistani forces fired
rockets and mortar bombs at two Indian posts on the LoC, dividing
Muslim-majority Kashmir between the two countries, in the Krishna
Ghati sector.

Pakistan army has denied the allegations, saying there had been no
violation of a ceasefire on the Kashmir frontier and that its soldiers
had not mutilated the corpse of any Indian soldier.

“Indian blame of mutilating Indian soldiers’ bodies are also false.
Pakistan Army is a highly professional force and shall never
disrespect a soldier, even Indian,” it maintained in a statement.
