Enclosing some of my recent comments on the face book, after the banning of beef:
K.P. Sasi Beef is banned. Human meat is not. But why was beef banned as just a notification? Why was the notification not announced properly in order to receive public opinions and democratic dissent before it is made into a law? Beef is the food of over 20 million people in this country. Over 80 lakh Hindus consume beef. Why was this important issue not discussed in the parliament before banning? Is Indian Parliament just a rubber stamp? Mahatma Gandhi was against the banning of beef. Babasaheb Ambedkar who was responsible for drafting the Indian Constitution was against the banning of beef. This move is certainly anti-dalit, anti-Muslim and anti-Christian. And why was such a notification announced just one day before the Ramzaan rituals? A Government which can not respect the food rights of people, a Government which can not respect the diversity of cultures in India, has no moral authority to rule over the diverse cultures in India. Please read this recent powerful poem by Ra Sh: http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/05/26/how-to-lynch-a-man My question is also that when there are six states in India where the consumption of beef is legal, how can the Central Government impose a notification like this? Did they have a discussion with the Chief Ministers of these states, so that minimum democratic norms can be upheld? And as far as the notification is concerned, legal experts please correct me if I am wrong, there is a norm that the proposed notification should be announced publicly 90 days in advance, in order to receive comments and criticisms before they finalise any notification. Have they done that? Therefore, can this notification be called legal? [image: https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif] When the Central Government knows very well that six state governments are opposed to the beef ban, there should have been a minimum consultation with the states. And for a notification, it is not enough to put it in your website which nobody watches. Such notifications should have been publicly announced in major English and regional newspapers. The very idea of keeping 90 days for notification is to get response from people whether they agree with the notification or not. But here, when six states are against such a law, people in these states never came to know that such a law is going to be made. This move is absolutely unconstitutional. I can only perceive Narendra Modi as a theatre actor in politics. The real move on the chess board is played by Amit Shah. He is reaching Nedumbassery Airport at 10.30 am on June 2, in Kerala. He has a busy schedule of attending 17 meetings in Kerala. The recent beef ban is affecting the food rights of Muslims, Dalits, Adivasis, Christians and a large number of Hindu beef consumers in Kerala. The ban is also unconstitutional and imposition of Central Government's power over six states where consumption of beef is legal. This has happened without any consultation with the Kerala Government or any other state government. In the light of the recent violation of food rights of the Keralites. I wonder if SFI, DYFI, AISF, AIYF, AAP, Welfare Party, SUCI, SIO, Solidarity Youth Movement, People's Voice, Dalit organisations, anit-fascist networks and other autonomous secular groups can give him a warm welcome. If it happens, I can say with confidence that I am proud to be a Keralite. Fascism should not be allowed to enter our food plates. http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/05/28/lynching/ Milk is not vegetarian. It is not a product that you receive after planting seeds and harvesting from the land. Milk is non-vegetarian. BJP Gosamrakshaks should ban the national level robbery of their mother's milk. PS: A BJP Gosamrakshak had a child. The newly born male child had two horns. Because the mother was Gomaatha ! Children drink non vegetarian breast milk. Gandhi was also a non-vegetarian who consumed goat milk every day. http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/05/26/cattle-sale-restriction-a-death-blow-to-indias-farmers-and-federalism?/ <http://www.countercurrents.org/2017/05/26/cattle-sale-restriction-a-death-blow-to-indias-farmers-and-federalism/> __________ Peoples Media Advocacy & Resource Centre- PMARC has been initiated with the support from group of senior journalists, social activists, academics and intellectuals from Dalit and civil society to advocate and facilitate Dalits issues in the mainstream media.
