Rocky Tuseed won the president’s post by a margin of 1,590 votes, while
Kunal Sehrawat defeated the ABVP candidate by 175 votes. ABVP’s Mahamedha
Nagar defeated NSUI’s Minakshi Meena by 2,624 votes to win the post of
secretary while Uma Shankar defeated NSUI’s Avinash Yadav 342 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), meanwhile said it does not see the defeat
on two posts in DUSU election as an indicator of party’s popularity graph.

Ravinder Gupta, general secretary of Delhi BJP and former north Delhi
mayor, said student polls in Delhi University are not a mandate against
either the Modi government or the party. “Student union elections do not
decide national politics. I do not find any political reason behind ABVP’s
defeat on two seats,” said Gupta, who was incharge of the election and was
managing its campaign.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and general secretary (organistaion)
Siddharthan also held several meetings with Delhi University students. The
BJP leader said liking the loss to the reputation of BJP or PM is
‘childish’.

“A few thousand students cannot reflect the mood of the city or nation for
that matter. Congress has lost its support, it is the fact. Winning
students union election does not mean that the party has made a comeback,”
Gupta said.

When the counting started on Wednesday morning, ABVP was leading on all
posts. However, NSUI took a surprise lead mid-way staging a comeback.

The boost for NSUI comes at a time when the student group was thrown off
the contest in a humiliating defeat in Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union
(JNUSU) election held on September 8.

While the Left Unity swept the polls after a tough fight from ABVP, more
students voted for NOTA (None of the above) than NSUI.
