The problem with Hindi is its official status. And this official status is more used by the Hindutva forces than other political groups today. Even in what is normally known as `Hindi speaking regions', Hindi is a colonial language which has already destroyed several local languages and still continue to destroy local languages of adivasis and local communities, forget the linguistic colonialism of Hindi in south India or the north eastern regions in India. As a language, Hindi does not have much history like Tamil or Santali or Bhil language. For all official purposes, people still use English as a language of communication. Hindi can not replace English for official purposes, since no officer can write an official letter in Hindi to anybody outside India. An `official' letter in Hindi may not be understood even within India. Once, Lalu Prasad Yadav wrote a letter in Hindi while he was a central minister to E.K. Nayanar who was the chief minister in Kerala at that time. E. K Nayanar wrote the reply in Malayalam😊 . What I am arguing is that Hindi has no business to be declared as an`official' language, even in the so-called `Hindi speaking regions'. What is needed is to strengthen over hundred languages in India, which are not recognised by our Government or our educational institutions, but fortunately or unfortunately they still remain as the largest spoken mother tongue languages of Indian people. An `officer' can not insult our `mother', you see. Even the Sanghis will agree to that.😊 We can dream of a `secular India' respecting all cultural diversities, only If the cultural diversity which includes the linguistic diversity also in our sub-continent, is officially accepted, A nation which can not accept cultural diversities and linguistic diversities can not be called a nation. You can only call it a sub-continent.
